ALBUM NOTES

Set for a April 13th, 2004 release, my debut album features 10 songs all written and arranged by myself. I perform on acoustic and electric guitars, flutes and keyboard programming. I am very excited about this project, which features a smooth jazz format.

Craig's Bio
Read a short story for each of the 10 songs

"Los Angeles" is my birthplace. LA is a Powerful city' I wrote this song with a groove to make you feel like your crushing around LA but not at rush hour.

"Jeepers, Mr. Kent" Where did I get that title? From watching Superman in the 50's. It was Jimmy Olsen's favorite line to Clark Kent. The main groove was lifted from a section of 360 degrees of trees. The intro had already been written than merged these 2 pieces together

"The Wind in Her Hair" this chord progression comes from reading a story of how Brian Wilson (the Beach Boys) wrote Surfer Girl, inspired by the chord progression from "When you wish upon a star" You can actually sing Surfer Girl over the first part of this song. The Title? I had a Crush on a girl, what else!

"Paths of Piece" The title Inspired from Proverbs 3:17. Chapter 3 is one of my most inspirational chapters in the Bible.

"Sky Dance" The Beginning chords and rhythm inspired by Evils Presley's "Maries the Name of His Latest Flame" But I was sleeping and this melody line came to me I got up and grabbed my guitar and started writing this song. The Title? I was in a band from Washington state called the Sky Brothers from 1969 to 1973.

"360 Degrees of Trees" I was hired to play at a Super Bowl Sunday party, for half time and every body was inside the house screaming at the TV and I was out side on the patio tuning up and came across this chord progression and went home later and finished the song. The title? I had recently moved to the mountains and had trees all around me.

"Ashes" This song was originally the first song on the album with a different title, after loosing my house to the fire I changed the title. this music is actually the third movement in 360 degrees of trees slowed way down with a different melody, a trick I learned from song writer David Arkenstone.

"Pearls" This song came to me while having my morning coffee sitting up in bed, in fact allot of my songs are written in the morning. This guitar solo was the most difficult of all the songs. The title? Everybody's a Pearl being shaped by God

"Three Spirits" The music was written on a 12 string guitar, and originally an electric guitar with distortion, did the solo, later I put the Native American flute in its place. Nice choice! The title? I have my own interpretation.

"A Beautiful Place" I wrote the this flute melody by a stream in Lake Quinalt, Washington state.in 1971 and just loved it, I played it all day just so I wouldn't forget it. The lyrics were inspired by this beautiful setting. I had to wait 30 years to record this. It may seem out of place with the rest of the music, but I promised myself the album would be titled "A Beautiful Place" and this song would be the final track.Yes there is a DOORS, Riders on the storm feel to it, this song was a hit at the time.

Note from Craig
I started recording this album 1998, I didn't think it would take over 5 years to complete, but it did. I used a 1979 Tascam 80-8 with dbx noise reduction and 1987 Roland mc 300 sequencer and a juno 2 keyboard and an Alesis nano synth, very basic. lots of acoustic and electric guitars, and flutes. I recorded all the basic tracks and overdubs myself. Guest musicians helped out on percussion, tenor sax, trumpet and violin. Finally, it was time for final production and mastering. I asked Marty Echito to help out on this part. All the tracks were dumped on his computer. Marty played the midi drums and did an incredible job finishing this project and I'm extremely pleased.

I hope you enjoy this collection of songs as much as I enjoyed writing and recording them.
